Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are unstable and highly reactive molecular forms that play physiological roles in cell signaling immune defense. However, when ROS generation is not properly balanced by antioxidant defenses, a pathological condition known as oxidative stress arises, association with the onset progression of many diseases conditions, including degeneration aging. Biomarkers biomedicine actively investigated using different approaches, among which flow cytometry (FCM) other single-cell, fluorescence-based techniques most frequent. FCM an analytical method measures light scattering emission multiple fluorescences single cells or microscopic particles at very fast rate. To assess specific role stress, it essential to detect characterize these accurately. detection quantitation individual intracellular parameters fluorogenic substrates fluorescent probes still challenge, because biological methodological issues. In this review, we present discuss series complementary strategies focus on endpoints stress. Based our results, propose some recommendations for proper design cytometric studies order prevent minimize limitations experimental errors such approaches.
